As an Accredited Senior Member of the American Society of Appraisers, I am a qualified fine art expert for the legal profession and have worked on many court cases. Additionally, I have participated in litigation support and expert witness training via SEAK. In 2008, I prepared a witness to testify in a case concerning recovered artifacts from the Titanic, in accordance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice. I have been hired for dozens of cases to prepare appraisals that might have ended up in court; cases are frequently settled after my report is submitted.
Sometimes, in expert witness situations, property is simply mis-identified. Someone believes they own a painting when in fact they own a reproduction of a painting. They are frequently mis-informed by the seller.
